Youth and Children

At St John’s we are committed to providing youth and children’s work which leads young people to a lively faith in Jesus and to strong supportive friendships with each other.

We invite you to make the most of this dimension of the life of the church - by coming along to the different groups if you are the right age, by encouraging your children to get involved, or by getting involved yourself as a leader!

Children and young people are a vital and valuable part of our community. We provide different groups for different ages, so that all are able to participate and enjoy church life. Each group has differences to suit the ages that they cater for, but all seek to include the following elements:

  • » learning about the Bible and the Christian faith
  • » participating in prayer and worship
  • » having lots of fun together
  • » learning how to love and serve others

Sundays

During the Sunday morning 10:30am service we offer the following groups:

  • » Crèche (0-2)
  • » Climbers (2’s)
  • » All Stars (3-4’s)
  • » Explorers (5-7’s)
  • » Adventurers (8-10’s)
  • » The Crunch (11-13’s)
  • » Legacy (14-18’s)

Children are in church for the start of the service and then go out to their respective groups. On one Sunday each month our morning service is an 'All Age' service when the whole church family worships together.

Crèche

Crèche is available every Sunday morning in the Crèche room opposite the kitchen. The Crèche is staffed by church members for the whole service so that parents can return to the service whilst their children are cared for.

Climbers

Climbers provides a more structured group for children beginning to out grow Crèche. It uses games, crafts and bible stories to teach children the basics of the Christian faith and helps them to fully benefit from and enjoy their time in church.

All Stars

In All Stars children learn and worship through play, talk, simple stories, crafts and drama. There is usually a settling in period where parents/carers are welcome to stay for all or part of the sessions, and we will come and fetch you if your child is at all distressed.

Explorers and Adventurers

Explorers and Adventurers meet in Pointers School close to the church. Their aim is to help children enjoy meeting together and to have fun while learning more about what it is to be a Christian. In these groups the children read, act, play, create, pray, discuss and read the Bible.

The Crunch

The Crunch is a group that seeks to meet the challenges and excitements that young people experience in this time of life. The programme sets out to help the young people connect with God in their world and to offer appropriate friendship and support.

Legacy

Legacy meets every Sunday evening in the church from 8:15pm - 9:45pm. This group uses creative ways to introduce Jesus and equip young people to live as Christians in their cultural context.

It is a supportive, challenging, sometimes noisy and always entertaining group which welcomes all young people.

The Legacy Group has their own website at www.monkeywithyourbrain.com.
